BNSC Partners With Intermountain Orthopaedics to Provide ImPACT Testing

BNSC has partnered with the Medical Professionals at Intermountain Orthopaedics to provide players with the opportunity to get neurological baseline testing for concussion recovery purposes.  Concussions in sport have come to the forefront of medical research. There is no doubt that soccer players are at risk of sustaining concussions and BNSC takes this matter very seriously. It is our intent to provide our players with the opportunity to recovery fully and in the proper manner if they ever sustain a concussion.

ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is the first, most-widely used, and most scientifically validated computerized concussion evaluation system.  Given the inherent difficulties in concussion management, it is important to manage concussions on an individualized basis and to implement baseline testing and/or post-injury neurocognitive testing. This type of concussion assessment can help to objectively evaluate the concussed athlete's post-injury condition and track recovery for safe return to play, thus preventing the cumulative effects of concussion.  Once a player has established a baseline of results, those results will be considered "normal."  If the player sustains a concussion they will then take the test again and will not be allowed to return to the game until they have achieved their "normal" scores.  During the post-concussion period the player should be under medical supervision.

Intermountain Orthopaedics will be offering players from BNSC an opportunity to get baseline tested over the course of two Saturdays in February.  The test will be offered to all BNSC Boys Teams U-10 to U-18 on February 4th & to all BNSC Girls Teams U-10 to U-18 on February 11th.  Testing will be done in one hour increments, team by team.  For example, U-11 girls 9:00-10:00, U-12 Girls 10:00-11:00. Age groups and time slots have not been determined yet.  Cost for each individual will be $15.  This may be paid in advance or upon arrival at the testing facility.  The testing location has not been determined yet.  Testing should be done every 2 years, so it's a $7.50 investment annually.

BNSC families should let their team manager know by December 19th whether or not their child will be participating.
